History The Zipper Gas Heating Company was founded in 1937 by William B. Zipper. These were the days when coal was a common way to heat your home. Natural gas was soon introduced, as were forced air furnaces and eventually central air conditioning became the standard by which we live today.
In 1978, the Ostertag family purchased the Zipper Gas Heating Company and changed the name to Zipper Air Conditioning and Heating. Along the way, the slogan "Zip to Zipper" was introduced and has become a strong identity and often used as our second name.
Our specialty remains the replacement of existing heating and cooling systems, saving our clients money by increasing the efficiency of heating and cooling their home or business. We also service these systems as well as manufacture and install duct systems. Various accessories complement basic systems to include fresh air ventilation, high efficiency air cleaners, UV germicidal lamps, automatic humidifiers, programmable thermostats and zoning systems.
Our Mission Zipper Air Conditioning and Heating provides the highest quality air conditioning and heating equipment. We install and service each and every job to exceed our customers' expectations.
We provide personnel attention to every customer in hopes of a long lasting relationship. Indoor comfort is our goal. In short, we do whatever it takes.
About That Bear Years ago, when “yard art” was very popular, Zipper leased various animals from a gentleman in Owensboro, Kentucky. One year a polar bear arrived to symbolize the new technology of central air conditioning. The bear quickly became a neighborhood icon. He has survived countless dog attacks, automobile accidents, all types of severe weather, ”bear tipping”, old age, graffiti, copycats (we are the original polar bear) and lots of love and attention from small children. Generations of children have had their photo taken atop the bear. We invite anyone to share their memories or photos with the Zipper bear and we will post them on our site to share with everyone.
